A Fun Rosarito Beach Weekend

July 1, 2010 – 3:48 pm
Baja Bound headed down to Rosarito Beach this past weekend to check out the Mexico International Volleyball Tournament, get some surfing in and enjoy cheap and delicious Baja cuisine. Baja Bound was the official Mexico insurance provider for the volleyball tournament and we were excited to check out some of the action. The tournament was held on the beach directly in front of Papas and Beer, with pumping summertime surf as a backdrop. Even though the sun was reluctant to come out most of the weekend, the players were heating things up on the sand with some impressive volleyball action. The event organizers did a great job putting the tournament together, and everybody really enjoyed the weekend. The great thing too is that all of the profits from the tournament go to charity. The masses gather at registration BajaBound.com en la playa! Rosarito Mayor Hugo ...

Check back next week for tournament photos and video, along with a recap of the action. For additional information, including registration visit the Mexico International Volleyball website.

Golf 4 Niños photos

June 15, 2010 – 2:26 pm
The third annual Golf 4 Niños charity golf tournament and fiesta took place on Saturday, June 12th under cool and cloudy skies. The Baja Country Club course was in great shape and the Baja Bound Mexico Insurance team played well, ending up one under par for the day. Thankfully, that was not last place! By the time the post-golf fiesta was under way, the sun finally made an appearance and a good time was had by all. Special thanks to "Doc" Dougherty for all of his hard working in putting the event together to raise funds for the Agua Viva shelter. Jesus tees off on the tenth hole at Baja Country Club Gustavo makes a nice bunker shot Larry French of Baja Real Estate Group and Baja Rentals lines up a putt. (Yes...he made it!) Disabled Explorers Head To Baja To Help Coco

June 11, 2010 – 10:24 am
If you have ever driven from Gonzaga Bay to Mexico 1 in Baja, you've probably had the chance to experience Coco's Corner. Coco is definitely one of the most intriguing characters you will come across in Baja. Years ago he dropped out of society and posted up in a remote section of Baja desert, where he has been able to carve out a curious little niche for himself. Coco is a double amputee, and has been getting around by using a quad, or doing his best with the remainder of his legs. This weekend, Lance Blair and a crew from Disabled Explorers are visiting Coco to see if he is interested in getting fitted for prosthetic legs so he will be able to walk again. Baja Bound is proud to be providing the Mexico insurance for their journey in their souped up Sportsmobile W.A.V.E (Wheelchair Accessible Van for Expeditions). [caption id="" align="aligncenter" ...

NORRA Mexican 1000 Baja Road Trip – Day 5

May 17, 2010 – 4:00 pm
Sunday morning we were up at 5:30 and having coffee while preparing for the day. The #35 car - A 1969 Ford Bronco "Big Oly" replica - was in the parking lot at Rice and Beans on it's way back home. Unfortunately, racers Sol Paradise and Pete Schmidtmann had blown a head gasket just south of San Ignacio and were unable to finish the rally...but the Bronco sure looked great! The 1969 "Big Oly" replica As we made our way north, we stopped at another of the many military checkpoints that we went through during our trip. Some people cringe at the sight of of a military checkpoint in Mexico, but for the most part the soldiers are friendly, professional and just trying to do their job...if you are courteous and respectful they will reciprocate. Since we were all wearing our bright orange Mag 7 shirts during the trip, they were curious ...

NORRA Mexican 1000 Baja Road Trip – Day 4

May 12, 2010 – 4:32 pm
We woke up Saturday morning in San Juanico with lots of sunshine and the winds of insanity had finally stopped blowing! We drank coffee in the sun for a bit and then stopped in at El Burro Primavera for breakfast, which had good food and a great view of the surf at first point. Bill and Thomas have curbside coffee in front of Abarrotes Lupita. Hotel 7 Puntas is on the upper level. Photo opportunity at El Burro Primavera First point with teeny tiny perfect waves....ideal if you are the size of a pitufo! After breakfast we said goodbye to Thomas, who was just starting out on a 5 month solo journey through Mexico and Central America, with his ultimate destination being Panama. That is going to be quite a trip! Bob and Barrett still had not connected with their race crew, so our plan was to tow them out on the south road ...

NORRA Mexican 1000 Baja Road Trip – Day 3

May 11, 2010 – 5:05 pm
On day 3 we woke up early and headed for San Juanico. The road was much easier to negotiate with daylight on our side, and the rigged leaf spring was holding up pretty well so far. Almost there! We finally arrived in San Juanico at around 9:30 am and got to our pit location. The first cars would be coming through in about four hours, so we scrambled to offload the trailer, set up the pit and get the fuel prepped for distribution. Unfortunately, we got so busy at the pit that we did not get any good photos of the cars, but there is some good video footage that is being put together and will be posted soon. It was amazing to see some of the cars that had made it this far in the race considering how rough some of the course was. Towards the end of the afternoon we received ...

NORRA Mexican 1000 Baja Road Trip – Day 2

May 11, 2010 – 12:52 pm
We woke up Thursday morning with a cold wind howling across Gonzaga Bay. The front that had been moving down the west coast all week was heading south and showed no signs of letting up. We drank coffee as the sun did its best to warm things up. The photos don't do justice to just how blustery the day was, but it was a beautiful morning nonetheless! Today our plan was to get to San Ignacio as soon as we could, and then determine the best route into San Juanico where our race pit would be set up. Our planned travel route was to head south out of Gonzaga, through Coco's Corner and back out to Highway 1 at Chapala, then south through Guerrero Negro and on to San Ignacio. Morning low tide on Gonzaga Bay The sign for Alfonsinas on the way out of town The long road ahead of us Cocos coche Geoff ...

NORRA Mexican 1000 Baja Road Trip – Day 1

May 7, 2010 – 2:52 pm
The NORRA Mexican 1000 was an amazing event full of history, nostalgia and lots of racing action! The three day stage rally went from Mexicali to La Paz, making stops in Bahia de los Angeles and Loreto on the way down. Vehicles had to be from 1989 or older in order to compete, so the collection of vintage vehicles was impressive. Baja Bound was honored to be the official Mexican insurance sponsor for the event, as well as the Mexican insurance provider for Mag 7, the official pit crew for NORRA. Geoff from Baja Bound was also joining Mag 7 to work in the San Juanico pit on day two of the rally, and joined their caravan headed south. Day one - Wednesday, April 28th - was the technical inspection of all the vehicles, and kicked off in Mexicali at Hotel Colonial. Here are some photo highlights... The Walker Evans Dodge ...

Overland Expo 2010

April 21, 2010 – 4:04 pm
Baja Bound Mexican Insurance made the trek out to Amado, Arizona last weekend for the second annual Overland Expo. The three day event was an adventure travelers dream, with a variety of overlanding workshops and classes as well as a ton of exhibitors offering just about everything you need to get out and see the world by land. The people we met, products we saw and charitable causes we learned about were awesome! Here are some photos from the weekend... Here are a group of overlanders participating in a round table discussion. Alexis from American Overland Expedition - They do custom builds and vehicle modifications as well as providing training for off-road driving, recovery and expedition travel. This Sportsmobile would be pretty amazing for a Baja road trip! Lance from Disabled Explorers with the custom Sportsmobile for they use for their trips. A big project they are taking on this year is getting Baja ...
