A Fun Rosarito Beach Weekend
Baja Bound headed down to Rosarito Beach this past weekend to check out the Mexico International Volleyball Tournament, get some surfing in and enjoy cheap and delicious Baja cuisine. Baja Bound was the official Mexico insurance provider for the volleyball tournament and we were excited to check out some of the action. The tournament was held on the beach directly in front of Papas and Beer, with pumping summertime surf as a backdrop. Even though the sun was reluctant to come out most of the weekend, the players were heating things up on the sand with some impressive volleyball action. The event organizers did a great job putting the tournament together, and everybody really enjoyed the weekend. The great thing too is that all of the profits from the tournament go to charity.

Everybody knows that a weekend in Rosarito Beach would not be complete without hitting some of the local taco stands. On this particular weekend we made it to a few of our favorites: Taco Surf, Los Arcos in front of the Rosarito Beach Hotel and Tacos K-38. Taco Surf has excellent carne asada tacos, yummy al pastor tacos and one of the best tortas you will find anywhere. I think the secret is the bread they get from the bakery next door. Los Arcos has a variety of options, but the carne asada here is excellent too. Tacos K-38 specializes in fish tacos, and they are superb. They also have an excellent variety of hot sauces to pick from that range from mild to out of control. Delicious.

A sizable south swell had started to fill in on Saturday morning and the reef breaks south of Rosarito were starting to pulse with waves in the head high range. By Sunday morning the swell was in full swing with 2-3′ overhead sets coming in. Thankfully, the crowds were light and everyone out there was getting some good waves.

- Nice righthander!
All things considered, it was a great weekend in Rosarito Beach! To top it all off, there was absolutely no border wait in the Sentri lanes coming back to California. If you haven’t gotten your Sentri pass yet, you should….it is soooo worth it!
