Baja Bound At The 2012 SCORE Baja 500 Tech Day
The recent SCORE Tecate Baja 500 was a busy race for the Baja Bound Mexican Insurance crew. Over the last few years we have developed a lot of great relationships within the racing community and have been helping support some of the racing programs from privateer racers all the way up to the pros. Friday started by helping Class 20 solo racer Dane LaFontaine push the 151X bike through contingency. This was Dane’s first Baja race, and he had put in a lot of training time as well as organizing a great fundraiser to benefit Rancho Santa Marta orphanage in San Vicente. The bike looked excellent with the Baja Bound graphics made by the folks at ZLT and our crew looked sharp in our 151X t-shirts!
Afterwords, we headed over to the JCR Honda headquarters and had a chat with Johnny Campbell and team manager Joe Lloyd. We just started working with the JCR team this year and were really proud to have Colton Udall running Baja Bound Mexican Insurance graphics on his helmet. After a chat with Colton and a photo op, we said our goodbyes to the JCR crew and headed over to spend a little bit of time with Cameron Steele.
Few people love Baja the way Cameron does. When he is not down at the SCORE races in his trophy truck, he is out roosting on his dirt bike with the Desert Assassins crew up and down the peninsula and just loving Baja. I am pretty sure when he is not south of the border he is thinking about Baja, dreaming about Baja and talking about Baja. He is truly a great ambassador of the peninsula, and always wants to share his experience with everyone around him.
That afternoon, we met up with the YOLO racing team from Canada who we have supported since 2010. These guys are firefighters who got involved in the racing scene about five years ago and used to only race the Baja 1000. 2012 is the first year that they are racing all of the SCORE events and going for a class championship in their 5-1600 Bug. They also brought down 28 fire suits to donate to the Rosarito Fire Department in conjunction with Firefighters Without Borders, which is amazing! Way to go YOLO!
It was definitely a great day in Ensenada…see you at the Baja 1000!
