Well, the Lucha Libre race team had another successful run of La Carrera Panamericana. They managed to finish the race in great shape, and all the car needed was an oil change and a timing adjustment. Michael Emery has just posted some great new photos from the race on the Lucha Libre Racing site. Baja Bound Mexican Insurance was proud to be a sponsor of the Lucha Libre team, and we look forward to being a part of the event and their Mexico insurance sponsor again next year!

Once again,the Lucha Libre team will be taking on the 6 day, 2000 mile course in their 1967 Datsun Fairlady, which has finished the event two times already. Granted, they finished last, but finishing at all is a big accomplishment. Around 20% of the vehicles usually do not cross the finish line due to severe mechanical failure along the way, or a crash that renders the vehicle undriveable. In addition to the rally, the Lucha Libre team will be taking along much needed school supplies that will be donated to kids along the way. The rally will begin in the town of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Oaxaca and end in Lucha Libre Race TeamNuevo Laredo.

This week I had the chance to meet up with the Lucha Libre Racing team at Cantina Mayahuel (great food!) in San Diego for a promotional event leading up to the Carrera Panamericana. Attendees included fans, friends and sponsors of the car.

Their main focus is to create a network of organizations throughout Baja that are focused on preserving the environment. They have a great turtle adoption program that allows you to pick out a particular species that is threatened and contribute to their preservation. For $75 we were able to adopt a loggerhead turtle, and will be receiving an adoption certificate as well as tracking information as our turtle migrates back and forth from Japan to Baja. ProPeninsula is a 501c3 non-profit organization based in San Diego. For more information about ProPeninsula and how you can adopt your own turtle, visit them online at ProPeninsula.org.
