NORRA Mexican 1000 Baja Road Trip – Day 4

May 12, 2010 - 4:32 pm

We woke up Saturday morning in San Juanico with lots of sunshine and the winds of insanity had finally stopped blowing! We drank coffee in the sun for a bit and then stopped in at El Burro Primavera for breakfast, which had good food and a great view of the surf at first point.

Bill and Thomas have curbside coffee in front of Abarrotes Lupita. Hotel 7 Puntas is on the upper level.

First point with teeny tiny perfect waves….ideal if you are the size of a pitufo!

After breakfast we said goodbye to Thomas, who was just starting out on a 5 month solo journey through Mexico and Central America, with his ultimate destination being Panama. That is going to be quite a trip! Bob and Barrett still had not connected with their race crew, so our plan was to tow them out on the south road to Ciudad Insurgentes and up to Loreto. That, and the trailer was in no shape to go out on the same road we came in on. The going was slow for the first few hours, but once we got to pavement we were making good time.

A pretty sizable water crossing near La Purisima

The Sea of Cortez looking very inviting

The road into Loreto

The malecon in Loreto. We dropped off Bill and Barrett here and they were finally able to reconnect with their crew an hour later.

The coastline between Loreto and Santa Rosalia was truly amazing.

As the sun began to sink on the horizon we were just north of Santa Rosalia and pressed on to San Ignacio. We stopped in at Rice and Beans for dinner and knowing that we had to drive all the way back home to San Diego the following day, we got to bed early. It was a pretty great day on the road, and the landscape we saw along the way was amazing.
