The Squalo Mexican Surf Fiesta comes to the point at San Miguel on November 8th and 9th, and from the looks of the most recent forecast we are going to see some fun waves for the event. A 2-4 foot NW swell will be filling in on Saturday morning as the event kicks off, with size increasing into Sunday for the main event. The Mexican Surf Fiesta at San Miguel has been running for 28 years and always brings out some of the top professional surfers from around the world. Past winners have included Kyle Knox, Chris Ward, Matt Archbold, Jeff Deffenbaugh, Brad Gerlach and Brad Ettinger. Baja Bound Sponsors The Lucha Libre Race Team!

October 16, 2008 – 11:07 am
Baja Bound Mexican Insurance has signed on to be a sponsor of the Lucha Libre racing team as they prepare for the annual La Carrera Panamericana road rally held in Mexico. Once again, the Lucha Libre team will be taking on the 6 day, 2000 mile course in their 1967 Datsun Fairlady, which has finished the event two times already. Granted, they finished last, but finishing at all is a big accomplishment. Around 20% of the vehicles usually do not cross the finish line due to severe mechanical failure along the way, or a crash that renders the vehicle undriveable. In addition to the rally, the Lucha Libre team will be taking along much needed school supplies that will be donated to kids along the way. The rally will begin in the town of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Oaxaca and end in Nuevo Laredo. This week I had the chance to meet up ...

Tiger Woods Punta Brava Golf Course Announced

October 9, 2008 – 1:34 pm
Plans for the new Tiger Woods golf course in Baja were officially announced this week. I actually got an email about it, then saw part of the press conference with Tiger Woods on the Golf Channel a few minutes after. The project is called Punta Brava, and will be located on the very tip of the peninsula on the south end of Bahia de Todos Santos near Ensenada. The golf course looks like it is going to be pretty challenging, with several of the holes playing over the water. Construction of the course will begin in spring of 2009. For more information about Punta Brava, check out the video below, or visit the Punta Brava website

(Last) Rosarito Ensenada Bike Ride

October 7, 2008 – 11:35 am
The 29th annual (and possibly the last) fall Rosarito Ensenada bike ride was once again a great event. The ride attracted an estimated 6000 riders and thousands of spectators along the ride route. The weather was perfect for riding too...with cool coastal fog in Rosarito and Ensenada and breezy, sunny skies up on the inland plateau. The ride kicked off at 10 am in front of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, with a group of 200 "Elite Start" riders leading things off. The "Elite Start" was created for serious riders who charge the course at top speed and usually finish in just over two hours....not to be confused with the rest of us, who putter along at a comfortable pace and make frequent stops on our five (sometimes six) hour journey down to Ensenada! The starting line was extremely crowded with thousands of riders, so we did not get under way ...

Rosarito Ensenada Bike Ride!

September 17, 2008 – 11:09 am
Get your bike tuned up and get ready for the 29th annual (and possibly last ever) Rosarito Ensenada 50 Mile Fun Bike Ride. The ride takes place this Saturday, September 27th and starts in front of the historic Rosarito Beach Hotel. From there you head south along the coast for 20 miles before turning inland at La Mision and charging up the most challenging hill on the course. Once you reach the plateau, enjoy the great views of the Baja countryside for the next 15 miles before a long downhill descent into Ensenada. The ride finishes up at the giant Mexican flag in Ensenada, better known as the Finish Line Fiesta. Baja Bound is proud to be the official Mexico Auto Insurance sponsor for the ride, and are looking forward to another great event. You can check out the video that we made about the ride below.....see you in Rosarito!

5th Annual Amor Golf Tournament

September 16, 2008 – 4:49 pm
If it wasn't for the annual Amor golf tournament, I probably would have never taken an interest in the game. Thankfully, Baja Bound has been a sponsor and participant in the tournament for the last three years and it really got me excited to become a better golfer and improve my game each time. Best of all, it is for a great cause! Amor coordinates group mission trips to Mexico where volunteers spend a week building a home for a poor family living in poverty. Baja Bound provides Mexico insurance for a lot of their volunteers, and also provides Mexico insurance on the Amor staff vehicles. This year, the golf tournament will be held at Morgan Run in Rancho Santa Fe. Amor is hoping to raise $60,000 for their Casa de Amor program, which would effectively build 25 homes for poor families in Baja.

Labor Day Weekend in La Mision

September 8, 2008 – 2:21 pm
Labor day weekend is always a great time to head to Baja for an end of the summer getaway, and this past holiday was no exception! We had plans to head down to La Mision after work on Friday afternoon and got down to the border just after 6 pm. There was a lot of people heading south, and the wait to get into Mexico was almost half an hour. Once we got across and got to the toll road, the traffic cleared up and we were making good time. We arrived in La Mision at around 7:30 and had a quick glass of wine with some old friends before unpacking the car and getting settled in. A graphic designer friend who lives in La Mision had arranged for a place for us to stay, and we were completely blown away by the amazing accommodations that we had for the ...

Taco Tour Part Three: Taco Surf

August 28, 2008 – 2:59 pm
I had a handful of meetings in Baja yesterday and friends that were staying near K-38 for the week. After the meetings, I decided to stay down in Baja to surf and visit with my friends. I ended up eating twice at Taco Surf and enjoyed both meals quite a bit. The first go around I actually opted for a carne asada torta after trying a bite of an al pastor torta that a friend had ordered. The flavor of the meat was really good, as was the combination of guacamole, salsa, cilantro an onion. However, the bread is what made it amazing. I have a feeling they get the bread from the panaderia a few doors down, because it was so fresh, light and delicious that it seemed like it had been baked just hours ago. For my second meal, I had three carne asada tacos with all of ...

August 26, 2008 – 1:45 pm
Baja Bound has signed on to be the Mexico auto insurance sponsor for the 2008 Mexican Surf Fiesta, which will be held at the legendary San Miguel beach in Ensenada this November. This surf contest is a 2 Star World Qualifying Series event in which participants can earn points to qualify for the ASP World Tour. Pray for surf and see you in November! For more information about this great event, visit the Mexican Surf Fiesta website.
